Meet Jesse Marsch, Leeds’ New Coach

Leeds United have announced the appointment of Jesse Marsch as its new manager on a deal that will run until June 2025.

Marsch’s appointment comes after the club sacked his predecessor, Marcelo Bielsa, on Sunday, 27 February, after a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur, which left the Peacocks languishing in 16th place on the Premier League standings.

In a statement posted on their website on Monday, 28 February, the club confirmed that the 48-year-old American will take charge of the squad for the first time when they play Leicester City this Saturday, 5 March.

“Marsch, a former USA international midfielder, previously played for D.C. United, Chicago Fire and Chivas USA in the MLS,” their statement explained. “Following his retirement from playing, he became an assistant with the USA national team, before being named as the first head coach of Montreal Impact in 2012.

“Three years later,” they continued, “he was named New York Red Bulls boss and led them to the MLS Supporters’ Shield, and was also named the 2015 MLS Coach of the Year.”

In 2019, Marsch coached Red Bull Salzburg to victory in both the Austrian Bundesliga Championship and Austrian Cup.
